Here is an easy way to add a freshening fragrance to your home, while at the same time increasing the level of warmth and comfort on a Winter day. |

|
We call our suggested warmup a
boiled potpourri, but it's a lot easier than harvesting and drying
wildflowers
or buying expensive essential oils. It's as easy as a large
saucepan
on the stove, filled with three cups of distilled water and two ounces
of
vodka (the vodka helps the mixture evaporate, and adds no extra
odor.)
Bring the mixture to a boil, and add any one of a number of fragrance-
producing
items you probably already have around the house. |
| One of the best sources of
fragrances
is the spice cabinet, where cloves and cinnamon sticks can be
found.
For a subtle savor, toss in some chamomile tea, or experiment with
other
herbs and dried flowers from the garden. The candy jar is an easy
source of scents . . . try a handful of cinnamon imperials or starlight
mints
(the red and white cellophane-wrapped kind). If you're using
herbs,
an ounce per panful is suggested. |

Once the seasonings are added,
let the mixture boil and neutralize that Winter mustiness. You're
also doing your home's heating a favor, since the humidity added by
boiling
potpourri makes the indoor temperature more comfortable! |
