New Probe Reveals
Deep Duct Secrets
You and your Air Comfort Systems service representative can take an exploratory journey through inner space. The vehicle is a new space-age addition to our arsenal of dirt-fighting duct tools.
Duct Vision is a system centered around a small infrared TV camera that sees in the dark. The probe is designed to beam back video images of your home's heating and air conditioning ductwork by remote control, a detailed picture of your ducts' interior condition. With Duct Vision, homeowners get a view of the dirt and dust in their home's ducts that previous inspection methods couldn't reveal.
"It's really pretty eye-opening," said John D'Amato, one of the Air Comfort Systems technicians trained to run the new system. "Duct Vision can create an air gust, to show you what your duct looks like when the furnace or air conditioner kicks in. Usually it's like a blizzard of dust in there . . . people are really surprised."
An added feature of the system is convenient viewing of the camera's infrared output on a video screen, which eliminates the awkward stretching many homeowners undergo with the periscope device we used previously. Out-of-the-way nooks and crannies are visible, where much of the most noxious dirt lurks. It's all accomplished with a single small hole in a home's basement ductwork, a camera the size of two decks of playing cards, and a few minute's time.

"I enjoy doing the Duct Vision inspections," added John. "It's fun to show people a part of their home they've never seen before."
