As Autumn leaves tumble down, it's time to drop you our annual reminder to perform an energy-saving season changeover. Doing these few small tasks each Fall makes a big difference in the health and efficiency of your home's heating/cooling system.
Switch the Cold Air
Returns If your home has closeable upper
and lower cold air returns, close the top vents and open the bottom
ones for most efficient airflow.
Put on the AC Cover
A breathable cloth cover for your
central
air conditioner's outdoor unit keeps debris, animals and ice away from
the
sensitive mechanisms inside. If you don't own one, the Air Comfort
Systems
parts counter carries a wide selection to fit most units (don't forget
to
bring the manufacturer name and model number.
Clean Your Furnace
Filters If you have an electronic air
cleaner or electrostatic filter, clean it thoroughly with soap and
water. If you use disposable filters, be certain to change them at
least once a month.
Check the
Humidifier Pad If your home has a
humidifier,
replace the pad inside so water can flow through freely. If there's
still
no flow, check the orifice and the in-line screen. Replacements are
available
at the Air Comfort Systems parts counter.
Arrange your Energy
Maintenance Visit Anytime is equally
good for a thorough inspection, lubrication and adjustment of your
system. Right now is even better, before cold weather causes a rush of
emergency
calls.
